This Sunday May 10th 6pm slt at Northpoint Studios Live: come and be part of our great studio audience and be filmed!

Some things in Second Life are amazing because, well, you know they couldn’t happen in the real world. Tonight we bring you one of these things, a very cutting edge art/technology/reality melding exhibit called Brooklyn is Watching. Why is it named this? Because real people are watching the events that unfold via an avatar in the shape of an eyeball,  named Monet Destiny,  who views and projects the goings-on at the sim at all times onto a large screen monitor at the Real Life gallery. They even have a gong button.. so watch out!

Then we will experience the music of Anek Fuchs and Gina Stella. The pair met on SecondLife, shared a passion for music, and began dual streaming.. though they lived half a country apart. Now they make quite the formidable musically talented pair. Their acoustic music, which has a range of styles including rock, jazz and blues, has been part of Second Life music scene for quite a while, but don’t take our word: come see the duo live at the studio this Sunday!

Art is a medium that in some way, shape, or form penetrates all things– for Gracie Kendal Art penetrates both her lives; this guest started out as a real world artist, and upon discovering the possibilities of Second Life, brought her art to the virtual world. Gracie says about her art, “Throughout the years I have explored new dimensions of artistic expression, finding my contemporary voice within the realm of postmodern pastiche, ” and “As an artist, I have become fascinated with emerging online social environments, specifically the Web 2.0 virtual reality world of Second Life.” Come see Gracie and her wonderful art this Sunday on Tonight Live TV, she is about to take a huge step into the unkown!

87 Musician Performances on Tonight Live in nearly 2 years

pilgrim75swashbuckler

Pilgrim75 Swashbuckler

On the 28th of June 2009 Tonight Live reaches its 2nd year anniversary. (yep we will have a party!!! yaay)

In eight weeks time, we will have had over 90 Musician performances featured on Tonight Live, with interviews. Frogg Marlow and Jaycatt, well they count as two musicians I reckon, they have been on twice, we have had a few, but not many, Duos, and  Cylindrian has been on twice. So without counting every single Musician, all the band members lets say over 90 musicians will have appeared by our shows 2 year Rez day. There have been 86 shows so far since June 2007, 87 after this weekend. The shows are all still up at www.slcn.tv still able to be viewed. In June 2009 we will also be changing our format to high definition and Treet.tv (formally SLCN.TV) will be officially launched www.slcn.tv will then only keep the archives and all the new shows will be on the new Treet.tv website in High definition. If you look at some of the new shows already on High Def including Fabulous Fashion Our Production company Perfect World’s other show we produce, you will see how incredible the quality is, you can download the high Def version and watch it on your plasma TV!….from iTunes takes 5 hours to download if your’e in Australia but hey!…. joke….it is slow but you know,  you do something else while its downloading.

Why am I writing this now? its 8 weeks away…just cause, just cause I had a bee in my bonnet, well, also because I just listened to some tunes from an Album from this weeks guest Pilgrim75 Swashbuckler and was so taken aback by his incredible talent I just had to shout it from the roof tops, ( I also went out and bought his Album within about 15 minutes of listening to some tracks) it occurred to me just how lucky I am to be able to help these Musicians find some new fans, and how privileged I am to do this job, and I wanted you, the readers to know a bit more about the background to our shows, to have more appreciation of what goes into these shows every week. I guess Im hoping for more support for our guests and what we do every week.

One of the highlights of each weekly show is the Music performance for me. Of course it is a deep passion for me. As a Jazz vocalist, and broadcaster of Radio Music shows in real life, I love to promote talent when I hear it. Im not one of those musicians who resent or get jelouse of anothers success or talent, in fact I applaud it! I’m as great a fan of other musicians and singers as anyone! I also hand-pick every act that appears on my show, and as a seasoned broadcaster and singer myself Im really picky! But also very forgiving, as I know what its like to be judged…I also have very wide taste in music. At home our collection varies from Jazz, Blues, Pop, folk, 60′s rock, 80′s rock 50′s Soul, Opera and even Classical, Latin, Celtic, New Age….loads of different types of music. I hope to be able to promote most forms of music on my show as long as it is P.G in presentation. I don’t particularly like demonic-type thrash/death/metal, but hey! Im happy for others to appreciate it. I wish there was more variety in SL, its coming….

I wrote a comment on my My Facebook page a min ago Im going to post it here….(edited for clarity,….umm and crediblity..)

In reply to ….
lan yes! Im sick of hiding our Shows light under a bushel every-time I hear someone say, “I don’t know where to find good SL musicians”…I want to shout! “on my damn show!” sure.. lots have left SL in two years but there are heaps still here! Most of the musicians in SL know I have live music on my show, why don’t you all promote it? Personally I’m not making any money out of the shows I produce, so its not that the guests on my show, are lining my pockets…count the advertisers… Tonight Live have one….I have no govt grant…no income in RL or SL…shruggs, but I have hopes and dreams that we can make it pay for itself, I really do! all the costs come out of my hubby and my retirement fund. All my staff are paid, not much… but as much as I can get away with without Freddy cutting up my credit card once and for all!. But changes are a-foot. We have a new Advertising manager Gianna Borgnine from Sandcastle Studio’s who really knows how to put a campaign together. I call to all Musicians to support the showcases in SL promote them! Venues, iTunes in SL, Events, TRAX and Bringiton Paine’s Museum Hall of Fame and live TV please! It only serves you better. We only have great creative musicians on my show, there IS quality control, I hope I’m a good judge of talent, watch it and see! In a few weeks we will be at 100 shows thats 100 individual performances on Tonight Live! (well more than a few weeks, 2 months and a bit away…over exited there…)

Paisley Beebe at 11:28pm May 8
Cont….I will put a list together of Musicians who have appeared on our show over the last 2 years, with links to the shows they appeared on. You want to know where the great musicians are in SL? Take a look! there will be 97 Musicians from SL in that list. And I promise you, none of them will disappoint you. You may not like every style, but each one has something that made us at Perfect World Productions, sit up and listen and want more! Takes big breath…Ive been wanting to say this for a few months, there I’ve said it. Tonight Live is a great showcase! and I love promoting the talent I hear, even as a Singer myself, I love to promote Talent why not :) its no skin off my nose. And I enjoy the discovery soooo much. This weeks show Im astounded again at the undiscovered talent of www.cdbaby.com/petemroz What a find. Bless you SL and all of you that create :)

I don’t know why, is it apathy? Hatred of me as a presenter? people thinking I have loads of money and I’m making money of all the guests backs?…but I hardly ever hear anyone on the SL blogs mention what a great resource Tonight Live is as a showcase for outstanding music in SL. Ok… so it gets my goat a bit, I put so much personal time into the show, I want people to watch it of course, I want all the talent and the guests to have as many viewers that I can get them, to promote what ever it is that they are bringing to the show. No point in all that trouble with only 5 people watching unless they are millionaires that are gonna donate or sponsor the guests cause or talent.

Being an Aussie is funny, we are generally self-effacing types who shrug when someone praises us, its not an Aussie thing to push your own barrow or blow your own trumpet, someone might tell you your a “wanker” or you are “up yourself”…But the more I mix with Americans, the more I recognize, that if I don’t at least promote the talent on my show, they, the talent, will miss out also.

Week after week I fall in love with my guests. I research them, talk to them, and in every one I find out something remarkable about them. Its my job, and my passion. I’d like to thank each and every one of our guests for being brave enough to come on my show. You make my show the success it is, (in its small way) I only tease bits of information out of you. I try to bring out the best in YOU. I do it, because I have a natural crazy curiosity about people and about life, (I was always in trouble for asking too many questions in Class…..terrible…now I get to do it, and I don’t get told to put my hand down Yay!)

As audience members, what you probably don’t know is, how terribly hard it is for a lot of our guests to come up on stage and talk. Many many of them are terrified, but so determined to get what it is they are trying to say out there, for other people to learn from, for promotion of their or other’s creative works. We have had, at times audience members that have been abusive, rude and discriminatory to our guests whilst they are on stage being interviewed. We so expect some of that, you get nutters where ever you go… And we do try and make it as safe an environment as we can. Most guests have never even spoken publicly anywhere in RL or SL. Its not easy! and they have to follow our directions also to do it. We have had recent episodes where disabled persons were ridiculed by an audience member in open chat! As I said… nutters. Yep we booted and banned him! Won’t and will not ever tolerate bigotry and rudeness and disrespect ever.

I recall the guest, a War Vet, who was also a disabled person, wheelchair bound, and desperately ill in RL, who also had a stutter, but was so passionate about promoting his support group to our audience, to receive more support or help for others like himself. He is in RL an incredibly shy and almost withdrawn person. The bravery I saw, and felt from him that night, made me very emotional and thank god I went to a commercial break! Im teary now as I remember it. That young man had been to war and came back injured, most certainly permanently, and the bravery I witnessed knowing he was trying so hard to not let his stutter get the best of him was just so moving. I was so proud of his achievement. these are the things you don’t see on camera, the back stories we don’t tell. These are the things that drive me to help these people bring their messages to our little world of SL.

On our own team of Perfect World Productions we have people who are themselves chronically ill, disabled and struggling personally. But their passion for what we are doing on our show,s gives them something to stay up for, something to GET UP for. there are many many non-able-bodied people who have been on my shows but you wouldn’t know.. or have been part of our production team, bringing the show to air. Its wonderfull that we can all do something that is not possible to do in Real Life.

So… Back to the music…if you are reading this and someone grumbles that in particular, with musicians, they don’t know where to see great live music in SL. They complain that there are no critiques, how do they know someone is good, they went to a show and left because they thought the musician stank, and never went back to watching Live Music again. Tonight Live is freely available and reliable in its quality. Tonight Live is not an open mic it is not a showcase for just anyone that wants to “try” Music. It is for anyone that can play in-tune with passion! If you can keep a steady beat, sing in tune and you sing with passion and style you might get a spot. And…it will be the biggest audience you will have played to in one sitting on SL. With over 5 thousand viewers every show. Not counting the archives, which people watch over and over. Thats a small stadium. The musicians on Tonight Live are also featured on the Music Channel on SLCN on the inworld Screens. Their performances are edited down and uploaded there. So they are seen on two channels on SLCN.TV soon to be Treet.tv

I spend about 12 hours a day just working on Tonight Live and Fabulous Fashion with Angie Mornington (which will soon be rivaling T.L for the no1 spot very soon!) I love creating and producing and hosting Tonight Live, so much, (I did the same thing in Primary School, (junior school)) creating writing directing producing and generally bossing everyone around in our little School productions, they were often makebelieve TV shows, the kids loved it, as they got out of Maths and we had an absolute ball, pretending. (So…nothing much has changed…) The Perfect World Team of Seven including myself, 8, is probably doing the work that a real life production company would hire twice as many people for, and that would be low budget….

The guests on both our shows, make me laugh, Cry, swoon and sometimes make me crazy when they are difficult, but boy what a great job! Now… I have to make the productions pay for themselves so I can look my family in the eye and say “yes Im paying my way”, that my passion, my crazy dream, is not a drain on the family income any more! This crazy crazy idea I had, (Tonight Live was the first TV Show of its kind in the metaverse), As the first full weekly TV show in virtual worlds, we had to create every production technique from trial and error, lots of error :) I personally only had my theatre and production company and advertising and radio show and Jazz singer background to draw from, (oh I forgot non computer age Graphic design also). My past employment has actually been a great help…

I hope Tonight Live will continue another 2 years and longer, and we will create other crazy nutty shows and one day in 5 years when I tell people I’m a virtual TV host they will not look at me and tell me I need therapy, or change the subject…

This weeks show is going to be another amazing show and that is not hype! its true. I hope you think so too. The Guest list of who is appearing on this weeks program will soon follow….
thanks for reading this rant :) Im allowed! its my blog! and Im proud we have made it this far, and I’m thrilled that the quality of both our shows is improving and improving.

Without sounding like an Emmy acceptance speech, thank-you thank-you all the employees that have worked for me over the last 2 years. Thank-you to my existing team of 7 employees, AutumnFoxx, SuperDave, Angie, Delinda, new additions Truelie, Brekka, and Nemi, you are all so patient and passionate to stick with it. Huge thanks to Wiz, Texas and Starr from Treet.tv they are incredible, you readers have no idea how clever and incredible they are! I’d also like to thank all our viewers the regular ones, (some come every single week!) and the fly-by-nights its for you, and the guests that this is all for, and my total self-indulgence of course :)

And as one of my amazing guests said last week! The Blind Louise Later
YOU AINT SEEN NOTHING YET!!!
love Paisley

This post was heavily edited after an initial foolish upload after 3 glasses of very nice Sav Blanc, bad lighting, a very late night, and some good advice from Mr “me salutes” Crap Mariner, I may have now gone overboard with the links but once I started……

Damian Carbenell

Damian Carbenell, originally uploaded by SuperDave-in-SL.

The show was one of my Favourites, Blind SL resident Louise Later was so inspiring and brave to come on Tonight Live and talk about what sort of hurdles you must overcome to benifit from the social contact the Blind can benifit from in Second Life, she also explained how her amazing Guide Dog Max works in Second Life to transport her from place to place in SL.

The Brother and Sister co-owners of 7 Seas Fishing the incredibly popular game/pastime in Second Life talk fish, and how they created an incredibly sucessfull buisness in Second Life. With over 500 Advertised 7 Seas fishing places in Second Life….it seems everyone is goin Fishing!

Seven Seas Fishing, Working Dogs for the Blind in SL, & Damian Carbenell! What a voice!!

Have you about ever thought about SecondLife’s accessibility to the blind? Or, do you think that there simply aren’t any visually challenged people in what seems to be a highly sight-oriented virtual world? Our first guest, SL resident Louise Later is legally blind in real life and she is here to tell you differently. Louise will be talking to us about how people without sight are able to enjoy their Second Lives, including such innovations as a scripted SL Seeing Eye dog! Louise is the real world co-founder of the Los Angeles Radio Reading Service; a service that broadcasts very current material such as best-selling books, daily newspapers, and popular magazines on a 24 hour basis so that everyone has the same access to information as those who can see. Her goal is to bring this service into SecondLife to improve SL’s inclusion of those with disabilities.

What is it with the popularity of fishing in SL… especially when the name Seven Seas is tied to it?  I bring this up because you have no doubt noticed the massive increase in Seven Sea fishing vendors across the grid. This insanely popular, slightly addictive and highly fun game seems to be taking over SecondLife with its multitude of one of a kind prizes, rods, and pet fish; In fact, I don’t think you can go shopping without bumping into a “prime” fishing spot.  The creators of Seven Seas Fishing, brother and sister: Seven and Jen Shikami will be here to a talk to us about their game… Hopefully they can tell us why they made it so much fun?
