Pips Back!

Ok so lets not get crazy here….I do remember  a lot of consternation before M’s time in the job, it wasn’t all Rainbows and Lollypops…

And besides all the things we will be throwing at the handsome Pip, flowers, cards, fix search, fix this fix that, we all need to focus on what we and they REALLY need to do here…I personally do not think its Rocket science? really…. I think the “make the viewer easy” was a total Red Herring…Ok so the Web site looks Schmick now the viewer looks less donky…but bottom line folks! if people really really wanted to get in Second Life they would learn how to do it! Do not tell me that learning Halo or learning WOW is as easy as Facebook! People do not know whats to do in here! that part is simple, if you want them to come in here…for goodness sake tell them why they need to be in here!

Second Life, still… after all this time with a new leader (as of today ex leader) has an absolutly horrible image in the average non S.L persons mind. Its a place for basement dwelling losers who want to have virtual sex with barbie dolls. Read the press this and last year! And while we smirk and deride such shallow views, the truth is, that everyone that knows about Second Life but aint here….doesn’t want to be here..They do not know why they should be here!

When I started my first TV show it was with that big idea in mind. I could not beleive all the amazing things that were here, and I wanted everyone to know about them. I hoped that one day my TV show would be a beacon to get the people who doubted that anything in Second Life would be interesting for them, would one day see my show online and go “OMG I had no idea!”

Three years ago, Linden Lab did not want to promote the residents to the outside world, they couldn’t see a way of doing it without showing favoritism, and they still have a hard time promoting them, but its changing, you can see its changing, with the showcase being more open, with offers from the PR dept to forward our details onto journalists. L.L lab has a jewel in the crown, and its us, its YOU the residents, and for too damn long they have been hiding it.

If people really knew the amazing things that do go on in SL, they would want to be in here, and they would learn how to be here. If my kids can work out how to play Halo and other complex online games, then adults can learn how to walk in Second Life. They just need to know whats to do here! And…be able to find it IN World NOT on the website once they get here.

The rest of it, is window dressing and functionality, you cannot forget stability, and progress in making things easier to find.

So promote us L.L this aint the Second Life school yard of 2004 where everyone gets a turn, make it fair but let us shine! you are on the right track. You must work on the image of Second Life. And when we get new people into SL via the welcome areas, can we please offer them more than shopping to get them to stay, links TP’s to wonderous SL places and more. And search that is Normal that works!
