How To Join Second Life & Meet Eric Whitacre

Information on how to meet Eric in Second Life.

Eric Whitacre Conductor and Composer of the Virtual Choir will be in the virtual World of Second Life® on Sunday 5th Dec 2010 at 8am U.S PST, (also  Second Life time) or  4pm-4.30pm London Time, appearing on the Virtual TV Talk show Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe. Like a real life TV show, this is virtual TV show is filmed for a live audience and you can be part of that studio audience actually in Second Life! Eric will be able to communication with you after the show on voice and via typing.

To join and log into Second Life which is a virtual world not a game. Go to http://secondlife.com and Join. Create a free account, create a name for your Avatar, and choose an male or female starter avatar. Download the browser to your computer, open it. And then log into Second Life, using your new account name and password.

Clicking on the above link, will open up your Second Life browser on your desktop, but when you log in this time, your Avatar will be logged in at the “Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe”  TV studio inside of Second Life, this is where Eric will be for the interview and filming of the show. You can visit the Second Life Tonight Live Studio anytime you wish before this filming, and walk around. At the Studio, there will be some Studio Staff, and a Staff Contact Board, that by right clicking the person online you can send a message to one of our in-world Staff Members, to help you navigate Second Life. There will  also be some free clothes for your avatar for you at the studio and some links where you can dress up your avatar if you wish. We will also help you find some cool places to visit in Second Life that include Music Dance Clubs, Live Music Venues (yes there are real musicians on Second Life!) Places to see Machinima (Film and Video filmed in Second Life) and some beautiful atmospheric places to explore. Look for the Display Boards on display in the studio, use your mouse to right click the display, to get links to great places for you to visit in Second Life with your avatar.  When you click the links a map will open and you can click Teleport to move around Second Life from place to place. To get back to the Studio, search for “Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe” in the search bar, (top right side) or search for a landmark (link) which will be now in your inventory (or personal Avatar Second Life file system). Double clicking the Landmark will teleport you back to the Studio.

Doing a search in-world using the search bar, for “Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe” will bring up a list, and on finding the Studio listed click on the links until you can Teleport  back to the Studio.

Computer minimum requirements

Second Life can be taxing on your computer and bandwidth. Make sure you have the latest graphic card firmware updates, that you have at least 3mbs internet download speed, and a computer not more than about 3 years old to have a reasonable experience. When logging into Second Life it is best to close most of your other programs on your computer. You may find that your first appearance in Second Life looks a little grey and will take a while for the graphics to start to come into focus and look smooth and bright. The newer and more powerful your PC or Mac is the better and easier it will be for you to move your avatar around. Second Life does not work on iPads or iPhones as such. It does work on both Windows 7 and lower versions, and Macintosh from about Leopard up.

Please Note:

There will be limited space at the TV studio actually in Second Life on the day of the interview on the 5th, we only have room for a maximum of 70 Avatars in the Audience part of the Studio. So to be able to get into the same space as Eric, you will need to get there early, 7pm is advisable an hour before the show. We will also have other areas in Second Life with screens up for you to watch the show on a live stream, and be with other fans. The Links to those areas will be sent to you if you Join the Second Life Group “Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe” when at the studio, click the join the “Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe Group” Advertisement Board and follow the instructions on your screen. If you get “stuck” with anything please ask for help from one of our Staff, check the Staff Board to see who is online.

Of course you can always watch the live broadcast at our Broadcaster”s Website at  www.treet.tv/live The broadcast will start at 8am ptd, or 4pm London time. The show will be 1/2 hour long. There will be a live chat stream set up on the website and also through our Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe group in world, you can talk to your freinds there, and submit questions for Eric.

If interest seems overwhelming for this interview we may hold a Ballot to enter the studio. We have yet to decide.
